About 400 people at Wayne Farms Enterprise plant on County Road 114 were evacuated to safety Friday morning when a fire broke out in the plant’s electrical room.

No injuries were reported from the fire.

According to a news release, the plant was evacuated at about 6:30 a.m. when smoke was discovered coming from the electrical room.

By 11 a.m. Friday, the electrical fire had been put out. Smoke was being cleared and the power was being restored prior to workers being allowed back inside.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by state fire and local public-safety investigators. Personnel from the Enterprise, Elba and Five Star fire departments were on the scene.

Wayne Farms, the country’s sixth-largest vertically integrated poultry producer, employs about 1,200 people locally at the facility.
